Letting go of 1% better February 2025

2 min read

We made it through the darker days.

At least as far as the sun is concerned.

As we head into February, I actually do not have much in the tank. I spent the majority of January fighting back Influenza A, and am just starting to feel back to myself.

I wish I could give some fabulous advice about resting and restoring, but I am exceptionally bad at this. Maybe why my symptoms have been lingering for 3+ weeks.

Things I noticed when I was sick. I have a lot of responsibility. And somethings do survive even if I do not tend to them.

  1. Feeding my sourdough starter (but much to my surprise its still healthy even if I didn’t get to feeding it every day at the same time)

  2. Clean up after bed time- the living room looks about the same by 9 am the next day as it would have had I not cleaned

  3. Cooking the big meals- My husband can really make an excellent pot roast- and everything actually tastes a little better if I don’t prepare it

  4. Making my bed- its been unmade since the beginning of January, I am not 1% less successful each day- but it is mildly less satisfying to not crawl into a “made” bed (sorry ADM William H McRaven and James Clear)

  5. Putting the kids to bed- My son- a real MOMMA’s boy (can repeat 3 x for good measure) sleeps actually just fine if daddy does bed time

In other pelvic floor news and for those also interested in TMI. Coughing relentlessly for several weeks is really a lot for the pelvic floor. For interest in how my pelvic floor affects me, mine also started losing the battle this week. I fancy myself as someone with a pretty strong pelvic floor, but did find myself leaking some this week (not so fun side quest). I am scheduling my sessions with my pelvic floor therapist to help get me back to baseline.

Burn Out Self Care March 2026

I read somewhere that it can take 3-5 years to recover from burn out. I don’t really know if that is true for everyone- but I am a little over 2 years into my recovery and I would be lying if I said t
