Happy Anniversary Resilient Root! |
Hello Reader, I was scrolling through my Instagram feed earlier this week. And I saw a short video of a young man calling his big sister- to tell her he doesn’t feel well. The sister said “Did you drink any water? Did you sleep enough? Did you take medicine?” Response: BLANK stare. She tells baby (grown man) brother- “maybe you should try one or all of those things.” I hate to be boiled down to one vibe- but that’s it: “Big Sister.” One year ago, on August 16, I saw my first visit with Resilient Root. On that day, I become blatantly aware of the ways I had been ignoring all the things I was telling my patients, my younger siblings, and my own children and friends. Did I drink enough water? Did I eat enough food? Did I spend time doing things I like doing? No, I didn’t. My patient satisfaction scores were excellent, and my outcomes numbers were great. And I, heroically, consumed enough caffeine to kill a small horse by 10 am. Thats probably not thriving (even if it looks really good for the board of directors). Shortly after I started seeing patients on my own I knew I needed to leave my job. So here we are one year later. It’s working, I am beginning to feel like I am actually thriving. I am running a business that works for me, works for my life, and works for my patients. And my prolapse and pelvic pain symptoms are better. Are you drinking enough water? Are you eating enough food? Are you doing things that bring you joy? What is Helping Me?Therapy: Yes.Mental health therapy.Every week.Lots of it. Physical Therapy: Yes, I am an expert. No, I cannot mobilize my own subtalar joint. My therapist reminds me to give myself grace, when I don’t. (They are amazing)10/10 recommend. Doing “Nonsense”: Listening to music (instead of podcasts)Reading fictionGoing to concertsBlocking off Tuesday afternoon for a nap Going for walks: (Story time) I’ll tell you how it feels to walk with kids when you’re burned out. Your heart rate goes up- and not because you’re walking fast but because kids are slow. They ask 8000 questions. They want you to carry them. Every mile takes an hour. But it’s a little different when you don’t have 30 notes to do after bed time. You see hawks flying overhead, robins pulling worms out of the ground, and you notice when your kid starts riding his bike with a little more ease. Upcoming ChangesI will be treating primarily out of Little Lake Wellness Hub on Mondays and Wednesdays. I plan to continue to see mobile patients on Tuesday Mornings, Thursday Mornings (early afternoon) and some Fridays🩶 I have revamped my website (with the help of my dear friends-Cory and Tanya), please do check it out! Updated Website Thank You!I would like to sincerely thank my very first patient. Thank you for supporting me from the start. Thank you for showing me what could be done and for mentioning my name to so many people. Thank you for watching me get better at carrying all my stuff and cheering me on when I decided to leave my safe clinic job. You really helped me change my life. I also am so thankful to my old patients (who found me on Facebook, Instagram, and Google), who took a chance on investing in themselves with me. I know it is a different kind of care, paying out of pocket, but I hope your experience has exceeded your expectations. Of course my neighbor/bestie that texts me daily at 6:30 when we are having our coffees, my hubby who has dealt with many seasons of me working far too hard (including building this small business), and my kids who help me fold laundry and talk to people freely about the importance of pooping regularly and drinking enough water (and for saying the proper anatomical terms at school over and over again). And (as always) the way you can best support me is by telling your friends and family. Google reviews are always super helpful for people looking for help find me. I am really looking forward to seeing you in August, 🩶Bridget The information provided on this blog—including text, graphics, images, and other material—is for educational and informational purposes only.
